MEET RON, FOUNDER & PRINCIPAL
Ronald E. Howell, AIA, is a Venice-based architect known for creating refined, high-end residences that capture the essence of Southern California living. With over 30 years of experience in architecture and structural engineering, Ron brings a rare depth of technical expertise and design insight to every project.
Raised in Venice and educated at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, with graduate study in Copenhagen, Denmark. An avid surfer, skateboarder, snowboarder, sailor and golfer, Ron's design perspective has been shaped by both his local roots and global experiences, including time spent living in Europe and traveling extensively.
As the founder of REH Architect, Inc., Ron leads a collaborative team of architects and engineers specializing in custom homes, remodels, and additions across Los Angeles’ most sought-after communities—Venice, Santa Monica, Marina del Rey, Pacific Palisades, Topanga, Malibu, Brentwood, Beverly Hills, and the Hollywood Hills, as well as select projects in Hawaii. His portfolio spans beachfront residences, complex hillside homes, multifamily housing, and restaurant design, reflecting a versatility grounded in both creativity and technical precision. Each project is approached as a unique opportunity to create architecture that is timeless, site-specific, and highly personalized.
Ron’s work is distinguished by its seamless integration of indoor and outdoor living, informed by his deep connection to the coastal environment. His commitment to sustainability and natural materials ensures that each design is both environmentally responsible and enduring in its appeal.
With a reputation for creative problem-solving and forward-thinking design, Ron approaches every project holistically—considering architecture, interiors, landscape, and hardscape as a unified experience. Whether navigating complex site constraints or reimagining existing spaces, his work consistently delivers innovative solutions, including pioneering concepts such as below-grade residential expansions in Los Angeles.
